The
western command of Indian army has on Tuesday conducted a solemn wreath laying
ceremony at the premises of ‘Veer Smriti’ in Chandimandir of Chandigarh. The
event was organized to commemorate the 74thInfantry Day.
The Western Army Commander, Maj Gen,
Manjinder Singh, Major General General
Staff (Operations), Headquarters Western Command laid wreath and paid homage to
the gallant martyrs who laid down their lives defending the Nation. Every year
on October 27, Infantry Day is celebrated. It was on this day in 1947, when the
First Battalion of the Sikh Regiment landed at Srinagar Airport to defend the
Kashmir Valley against the onslaught of Pakistani raiders. This was the
beginning of a new era of valour and sacrifice for the Indian Army. Ever since,
the ‘Queen of the Battle’ has stood tall against all adversities and played a
stellar role in all operations post Independence including Counter Insurgency,
Internal Security Duties, and Aid to the Civil Authorities. Infantry soldiers
have always displayed exceptional courage, warrior spirit and determination and
Western Command salutes all gallant Infantries on the occasion.
