United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has appointed Norway's Tor Vennesland as the new envoy for West Asia to replace Nikolay Mladenov.

Saran spokesperson's office issued a statement giving this information. "Saran chief Antonio Guterres appointed Norway's Tor Vennesland as his new special coordinator for the West Asia peace process and personal representative for the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority," the statement said.

The office said, "Mr. Vennesland will replace Nikolay Mladenov of Bulgaria. The SARN is grateful to Secretary-General Mr. Nikolay for his significant contributions and leading the Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator for the West Asia Peace Process (UNSCO)."

Mr. Vennesland will also serve as the envoy of Saran chief Guterres to West Asia and has also been tasked with mediating the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

Significantly, Mr. Vennesland is currently Norway's special representative for the West Asia peace process and has extensive experience in that area. He has been working on the West Asia region since 1994.
