At least two minor girls drowned to death in a village pond at Navabandh under Deori police station areas of Giridih district in Jharkhand.
The deceased were identified as Pinki Kumari (11) and Geeta Kumari (12). Another girl, Nisha Kumari (14), suffered a multiple injuries. It all happened, when the trio had gone to take a holy deep into the nearest village pond on Monday. Meanwhile, they fell into the deep ditch of the pond.
According to the villagers the incident
took place at around 7 am when over a dozen villagers had gone to take a holy
deep after taking out the Daridra Narayan procession into the village pond.
“As soon as we saw the minor girls were drowning into the pond, a few villagers jumped into the pond. While, Nisha was rescued alive, two others lost their breaths before they could be taken out from the watery grave", sources said.
The victim was however admitted in a private hospital, where her
condition is said to be stable.
Soon after getting information a team of
local police visited the site of incident and looked into the matter. However,
a case has been lodged with the concerned police station in this regard.
