In a bid to provide relief to the public at large, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has now exempted shops located in residential and market complexes from the lockdown.
According to an MHA order, signed by the Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla on late Friday night, all shops registered under the Shops and Establishment Act of the respective State/Union Territories, including shops in residential complexes, market complexes, neighbourhood and standalone are now allowed to re-open with 50 per cent strength of workers following the norms of wearing a mask and social distancing.
This exemption will not be implied to the shops in multi-brand and single-brand malls outside the limit of the municipal corporation and municipalities and shall continue to remain closed till May 3.
Centre's decision to reopen shops in residential and market complexes comes on the eve of the holy month of Ramzaan.
The order further explained that neighbourhood and standalone shops within the jurisdiction of the municipal body have also been exempted from the lockdown and this will not be effective for containment/ hotspot zones.
This MHA order comes a few days after it allowed the reopening of shops of the educational book stores and electric fans to ease out restrictions for the people.
