President Ram Nath Kovind met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday and expressed concern over the security breach during his visit to Punjab.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan tweeted that the President received from Modi a first-hand account of the incident of Wednesday.
"The President expressed his concern about the serious lapse," the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.
Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu also expressed concern over the breach. His office said he spoke to the Prime Minister on Thursday.
Naidu hoped that stringent steps will be taken to ensure strict adherence to security protocols so that such lapses do not happen in future, his Secretariat said.
Modi could not attend a rally in Ferozepur in Punjab on Wednesday after his cavalcade got stuck on a flyover for around 20 minutes due to a roadblock by protesters.
The Home Ministry called it a major security lapse. It said the incident took place around 30 km from the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala.
The Punjab government on Thursday set up a committee to probe the security lapses.
