The
mortal remain of martyr, Major Anuj Sood, was consigned to flame amid slogans
of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Major Anuj Amar Rahe', at Mani Majra cremation
ground on Tuesday.
Major Sood, along with Colonel Ashutosh
Sharma, two soldiers and one Jammu and Kashmir policeman had laid down their
lives in a fierce encounter with terrorists at Chanjimulla area of Handwara in
Kupwara district of Kashmir on Saturday evening.
Two terrorists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba
(LeT) Commander Haidar, were also killed by the Army in the encounter.
The mortal remains had arrived at 12 Wing
Air Force here on Monday. Wrapped in a tricolour, the body of Major Sood arrived
at Manimajra cremation ground from his Panchkula residence in a bedecked Army
vehicle.
Large number of people were present at the cremation ground to bid adieu to the brave son of India. Many serving and retired Army officers laid wreaths on the mortal remains of the martyr before the cremation, while the 6SIKHLI presented gun salute to the martyr. Family members of Major Sood, including his wife, father and sister, along with several senior Army officers were present during the cremation.
Born in December 1989, Major Anuj Sood was serving in 19 Guards. Defense dignitaries, including Lt Gen Gurpal Singh Sangha, COS Western Command, Maj Gen Balwinder Singh, COS 11 Corps, Brig Tejvir singh Mundi, Station Commander, Chandimandir, Brig D S Kushwaha, BRIG ADM, HQ Western Command, Brig Upkar Singh, Commander 37 Infantry Brigade, Col Adesh Kumar, ADM Commandant, Chandimandir, Col Jacob Kurian, COL ADM, HQ Western Command and Col Kunal Bhuria, Commanding Officer 6SIKHLI, paid homage to the martyr.
