The Marathwada region of Maharashtra registered 2,727 new cases of COVID-19 and 83 fatalities during the past 24 hours, informed health authorities on Wednesday.
Details from all the district headquarters collected by UNI show that out of the eight districts of the region, Latur district was worst-affected as it recorded 212 new cases and 22 deaths, followed by Beed which had 749 cases and 18 deaths, Aurangabad had 396 new cases and 14 deaths, Jalna recorded 232 cases and 13 deaths, Osmanabad had 409 cases and eight deaths, Nanded registered 205 cases and 3 deaths, Hingoli 62 cases and 3 deaths and Parbhani registered 462 cases and 2 deaths.
Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours, 24,136 fresh cases of COVID-19 were recorded across the state, taking the total number of infections to 56,26,733.
The state also registered 601 more deaths, taking the death toll to 90,349.
Meanwhile, 36,176 patients recovered in the state, taking the total number of recoveries to 52,18,768.
The state's recovery rate currently stands at 92.7 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.61 per cent.
At present, there are 3,14,368 active cases across the state undergoing treatment at various COVID-19 centres and hospitals, added the health authorities.
Meanwhile, strict restrictions have been extended till May 31.
