The Delhi government has ordered the closure of the Laxmi Nagar market till July 5 in East Delhi over alleged non-compliance of COVID-19 protocols by shopkeepers.
As per an order issued by the district administration on Tuesday, all shops except those dealing with essential services will remain close till 2200 hrs of July 5.
A huge crowd was witnessed in the market last Sunday and shopkeepers failed to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines, the district administration said, adding that violations of the guidelines may result in super spreader of the virus.
The market wore a deserted look on Wednesday with most of the shops shut.
The lockdown, announced in Delhi on April 19 during the raging second wave of COVID-19, was lifted in a scattered manner from May 31 with a warning to adhere to COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.
Delhi has recorded 101 new COVID-19 cases and four deaths on Tuesday.
