In-form fast bowler Umesh Yadav was injured on Monday on the third day of the second Boxing Day Test against Australia, raising India's concerns. Umesh had to go off the field due to a muscle strain.
While bowling in his fourth over, Umesh felt a muscle strain. Umesh could throw only three balls of his over and he had to leave the game in the middle and go out of the ground. He was replaced by Mohammad Siraj with the remaining three balls.
The medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) inspected Umesh's injury and said that the injury will be known properly only after some investigation.
Umesh's injury has become a cause of concern for the Indian team as fast bowler Mohammed Shami has already been ruled out of the ongoing four-match Test series against Australia due to an injury. The dismissal of Shami has weakened the Indian bowling attack and now Umesh's injury may add to the problem. Fast bowler Ishant Sharma was ruled out before the Test series.
India had scored 326 runs in the first innings and achieved a significant lead of 131 runs. India then dropped six wickets for 133 runs in Australia's second innings. Australia have a two-run lead with four wickets remaining. India will now have a golden opportunity to secure a tie in the series on the fourth day of the match.
