Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) -Madras has emerged as a new Covid-19 hotspot in recent days after 71 people including 66 students were infected with the coronavirus. Due to this, the management has to close all the departments.

The management of IIT-M has asked all the students to undergo corona examination and if any student is found to be corona infected, they will be sent to Quarantine.

A circular issued by the institute states that all departments, centers and libraries have been closed with immediate effect till further orders. In this circular all faculty members, project staff members and researchers have been advised to work from home, while students, scholars and project staff members have also been asked to confine themselves on campus and in their hostel rooms.

IIT-M said that only 10 percent of the students are being kept in hostels and as soon as the spurt in corona cases was reported, they arranged for all the students of the hostel to be examined after consultation with the civic authorities.
