A High Level Committee, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been constituted to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose ‘’in a befitting manner,’’ a gazette notification said on Saturday.
The Committee which also includes Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and others, will decide on the activities for a year-long commemoration, beginning January 23.
‘’The Committee will lend guidance to the commemoration activities in Delhi, Kolkata and other places associated with Netaji and Azad Hind Fauj both in India as well as overseas,’’ the notification said.
The Committee will approve policies/plans and programmes, supervise and guide the 'Commemoration of the 125th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose' including preparatory activities.
It will also decide on the broad dates for the detailed programme of celebration. The recommendations of the Committee will be considered by the Government for implementation.
The 85-member Committee includes political leaders, distinguished citizens, historians, authors, experts, family members of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, as well as eminent persons associated with Azad Hind Fauj (INA).
Among the members of the Committee are : Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar, Dr Jitendra Singh, Smriti Irani, Narendra Singh Tomar, former Prime Ministers Dr Manmohan Singh and H D Deve Gowda, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, former Lok Sabha Speakers Manohar Joshi, Meira Kumar, Sumitra Mahajan, Music Director A R Rahman, Bollywood actors Mithun Chakraborty and Kajol and cricketer Sourav Ganguli.
