Central government may sign an agreement to supply the corona vaccine 'Covishield' with Pune-based vaccine manufacturer Serum Institute of India (SII) in the next few days for a nationwide vaccination campaign of coronavirus Covid-19.

'Covishield' is developed by Oxford University and pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca and Serum Institute has conducted its Phase II and Phase III human trials in India. The Serum Institute is also preparing a Kovishield dose in India with a technology transfer agreement with AstraZeneca.

The central government has said that during the first phase of the vaccination campaign, one crore health workers and two crore people who were on the front line in the war against Corona will be given free vaccination. The Controller General of Indian Medicine (DCGI) on Sunday granted conditional approval to the emergency use of the indigenous Corona Vaccine 'Covaxine', prepared in collaboration with Kovishield and Bharat Biotech and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). At present, the central government has not signed a vaccine supply agreement with any company for the vaccination campaign
