The Congress on Friday reiterated its demand for the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah and the National Investigating Agency's chief Y C Modi over the controversy regarding the charge sheet in the Pulwama terror attack case.
"We demand the resignation of the Home Minister and the NIA Chief. There has been a demand for the resignation of the Home Minister in the Delhi riots, but now an important case has come up, that of the Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist", said Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi at a press conference at the AICC headquarters.
On Thursday, the Congress had demanded the same, hours after a section of media reported that the Pulwama terror accused got bail because the NIA failed to file the charge sheet, a claim which the investigating agency had refuted.
Posing several questions to the Governemt on the issue, Mr Singhvi wondered why a chargesheet was not filed against Yusuf Chopan, an accused in the Pulwama attack case.
"If Chopan is being given a clean chit, how will the government deal with JeM?,''he asked.
" Is a person named Yousuf Chopan a terrorist of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)? Is JeM responsible for the Parliament attack, Pulwama and many similar terrorist attacks?", he asked.
Why was a chargesheet not filed against Yusuf accused of Pulwama attack? Do you not consider Pulwama, Parliament attack an anti-national crime? Did the Central government submit any documents? If yes, why are there no signatures on it?,''he asked.
On the Governmet statement that the chargesheet could not be filed against Yusuf Chopan due to lack of evidence against him, Mr Singhvi said,''It (the government statement) states 'chargesheet couldn't be filed due to lack of evidence against Chopan' - how is this possible? Is this not a clean chit to JeM? What kind of madness is this? ''
Questioning the silence of the PM on the issue, he said,''the Prime Minister is now such a big man that he doesn't speak to public except at political rallies.
"In recent Lok Sabha polls, Modi ji said, 'who will you vote for, martyrs of Pulwama'. Now why have they forgotten them after taking votes? Isn't this the worst example of treason?,''Mr Singhvi asked.
"If Chopan is being given a clean chit, how will the government deal with JeM?,''he asked.
The NIA had said that the accused Chopan was arrested in a case related to the Jaish- e- Mohammad (JeM) conspiracy case that pertains to a criminal conspiracy hatched by senior commanders of JeM to carry out terror attacks in different parts of India.
