Chandigarh International Airport has been upgraded with the installation of in-line baggage screening system for the convenience of passengers.
This information was given by Punjab Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan after the inauguration of the newly installed in-baggage screening system here today. In-line system will take half the time for screening of passengers' luggage at the time of screening. Its screening capability is 1500 bags per hour. With the introduction of this new system, passengers will not have to queue privately to check luggage.
Checking in with this system will not be difficult and an average of 5 to 10 minutes savings per passenger is expected. The project has been completed at a cost of Rs 15.8 crore and has been integrated with the existing baggage handling system to provide baggage processing and screening systems.
Mrs. Mahajan took stock of the new airport facilities and held a meeting with the officials at the conference hall and discussed issues related to the development of Chandigarh Airport.
It is known that Chandigarh Airport is the first airport to offer discounts to airlines for domestic air travel on new routes / unused routes. Discounts offered per passenger, except GST, are 125 rupees for 125 nautical miles and Rs. 300 for more distances, as per the prescribed norms.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Tejveer Singh, Principal Secretary, Urban Aviation, Pradeep Kumar Agarwal, Chief Administrator, Gamada, DC Mohali Girish Diyalan, Air Commodore Tejbir Singh, A.A.I. Northern Region Regional Executive Director D.K. Kamra (joined via video link) and Customs / Immigration / Punjab Police officials, including Chandigarh International Airport CEO Ajay Kumar.
