Confirmed COVID-19 cases on Friday morning crossed the 6000 mark with a spike in fresh cases and the number now stands at 6412, as per the Union Health Ministry data.nAccording to the data, the casualties increased by 30 since Thursday evening and the death toll was now 199.
Active COVID cases in the country are now 5709, with a spike of 491 in this category since last evening. So far, 503 cases have been cured and discharged and one person has migrated from here.
The number of cases has again spiked in the worst COVID hit state Maharashtra which now has 1364 cases and 97 casualties so far, followed by Tamil Nadu where the number rose to 834 with eight casualties followed by Delhi where the number spiked to 720 and 12 deaths and Rajasthan at 463 with three casualties.
Telangana houses 442 COVID cases and Uttar Pradesh at 410.
In the past three to four days, confirmed cases have rapidly spiked in Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, based on the government data.
The government has identified COVID hotspots in states, while Delhi has already sealed more than 20 such hotspots and Uttar Pradesh have sealed 100 such areas where people were not allowed to venture out from their homes and the government would arrange for the doorstep delivery of the essential supplies.
Joint Secretary Health Lav Agarwal on Thursday said that the Ministry has formed high-level multidisciplinary teams to support states in the management of Coronavirus.
Two labs of CSIR have started working on the whole for the Genome Sequencing of the Novel Coronavirus, Agarwal further said. Meanwhile, Indian Railways has deployed more than 2,500 Doctors and 35,000 paramedic staff to fight COVID 19 with 5,000 train coaches being converted into quarantine,isolation facilities.
NGOs have been permitted to buy food grains directly from FCI for relief operations, JS Health added.
