With the detection of 8,635 new COVID-19 cases, India has recorded the lowest single-day spike in its tally in eight months, pushing the total to 1,07,66,245, according to the Union Health Ministry data on Tuesday.


The country witnessed 94 fatalities in the past 24 hours, mounting the death toll to 1,54,486.


A total of 13,423 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours. India's recovery rate now stands at 97 per cent. Active cases have dropped to 1.64 lakh, the Health Ministry data said.


Five states that saw the sharpest spike in cases in the last 24 hours are Kerala (3,459), Maharashtra (1,948), Tamil Nadu (502), Chhattisgarh (322) and Gujarat (298).


With three deaths in 24 hours, the National Capital recorded lowest COVID-19 deaths in ten months.
